Each tooth has an exact location in the mouth where it is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established, the teeth will function together properly. They will be more stable and stay healthy, as well as look attractive. This is the goal of the second and final phase of treatment.
In the first phase, appliances were used based on each child’s problem. The second phase is initiated when all permanent teeth have erupted, and usually requires braces on all the teeth for an average of 18-24 months. Final retainers are worn after this phase.
Braces are applied by bonding each bracket directly to the teeth and by placing orthodontic bands on the permanent first molar teeth.
Wires are changed or retied approximately once every 4-8 weeks into individualized custom brackets. These brackets, combined with modern archwire technology and the newest materials, provide more gradual, precise movement, while ensuring our patients experience the least amount of discomfort.
Our braces are small, easy to keep clean, and very aesthetic. The wires may be secured into each bracket through a variety of techniques from clear or colorful ligation modules or stainless steel ligatures.
Self-ligating brackets may even be used.
